History of the Ford F-150

Ford F-Series trucks date back to 1948 and the development of the heavy-duty Ford F-8. Since the 1940's, the Ford F-Series pickup has undergone several changes, but the goal remains the same: to supply drivers with a powerful, stylish pickup truck that can stand up to just about anything.

  • 1951 - The Ford F-Series is available in multiple trim packages for the first time: the Five Star Cab and the Deluxe Five Star Cab
  • 1953 - The second generation of Ford F-Series trucks is released. This was also the first Ford Truck to have a F-100 designation
  • 1957 - The third generation of F-Series trucks is released. This was also the first year that had two pickup bed sizes: traditional Flareside and the new Styleside
  • 1969 - A contractor's special package was released with side boxes for storage and a 110-volt generator under the hood
  • 1975 - The first F-150 model is released, which would eventually completely replace the F-100
  • 1993 - Now in its ninth generation, the Ford F-Series adds a performance model with the F-150 Lightning, boasting a 240 HP 5.8L V8 engine
  • 2014 - The first aluminum alloy bodied Ford F-150 rolls off the assembly line in Dearborn, MI
